Micky's Cafe

Wonder why it takes me a long time to blog about this place. Ironically, this is my favorite spot in Cebu City. Could be because there are lots of things to say about this place or maybe because, i just can't put into words how I feel whenever I come to this cafe.

Micky's Cafe has already caught my attention ever since I was still employed in my previous workplace. Probably about 3 years ago. Or was it way back in college? Hahah... Anyway, the bottom line is it has attracted me for a long time now. What really caught my attention was the huge label outside the store - "Japanese Cakes." For someone who's really in to Asian culture, specifically Korean and Japanese cultures, it's expected that I really dig anything "Asian." So, when i had my first glimpse of that huge label, I really promised myself that I'd come and visit that place.

From afar, you'd wonder if the place is really open for business. It seems so quiet and you seldom see customers coming in. Yet once you become a frequent patron, you'd be amazed to see faces that keep coming back. The place really attracts regular customers.

It was only early this year that I was able to visit the place the first time. The visit was impromptu. It was my day-off and I got bored so I asked my friend to go malling with me.As a result we got hungry and decided to try something new and good. Micky's suddenly popped in to my mind. My friend, who's also in to trying new restaurants and cafes didn't think twice and so I had my first step at Micky's.

Not to exaggerate but it  was a one of the best decisions I've made, really. The interiors were perfectly designed. From the color of the table cloth to the wall decors, everything really seems to fit well. I felt really at home in the place that I kept smiling the whole time I was there. It's as if I was not in Cebu. As if i were in another place - Japan! It's like an escape from the hustles and bustles of the city life, away from the crowded Ayala Center or Colon Street. It was like love at first sight , only this time it's love at first visit. Hahaha..

From the label itself, Micky's offers delectable cakes and pastries. My personal favorite is their Tiramisu. I also never fail to add Ganash balls to my order whenever I visit Micky's.The bittersweet taste is just so addictive. The store specializes in cheese cakes. They offer various cheese cakes from blue berry to New York cheese cakes. They also accept orders for whole cakes. You'd be able to find the list of their cakes in their portfolio, which is located at the magazine stand, to be specific. Hahaha.

On top of their divine cakes and pastries, they also offer scrumptious meals. I love their Carbonara. It's one of the best that I've tasted so far. Once you get a taste of it, you'd find yourself craving for it again and again. It's rich taste would surely haunt you. Another personal favorite would be their Teriyaki Chicken. The meat is oh-so-soft and the taste is so heavenly. What's even better is that the serving's really big. You get to have 2 slices of chicken (specifically the thigh part) per order. Though, the price might be a little sumptuous, every order's still worth it. Trust me.

Aside from their mouthwatering dishes and cakes, Micky's also serve teas from various countries. I haven't tried one of the teas yet, that's because I'm not a "tea"person, but seeing the look of the patrons who order them, makes me wanna give tea a try as well. They seem to really have the time of their lives. Their tea's also served in a very cute tea set. I'd definitely try them myself one of these days. For those who love coffee, like me, you can also get to choose a wide array of coffee from brewed to frappes. I am a confessed mocha-frappe addict. I've tried almost all mocha frappes in almost all coffee shops in Cebu but I must say, Micky's mocha frappe is the best. It's even far more delicious than Starbucks and I'm not being biased here. I also love Starbucks, you know. But the taste in Micky's has that homey feeling in it, a very distinct feeling you won't get from any other Coffee shop's coffee.

Micky's is a perfect spot for those who are searching for a great place to chill and relax. You can read your favorite paperbacks or novels or even surf the web using your latest wi-fi capable gadgets for they also offer free wi-fi. For Asian fanatics like me, you will be amazed with the Japanese fashion magazine collections they have in the cafe. There's also a booklet that teaches you how to speak useful Japanese sentences (with Cebuano translation!). With these things offered, I'm sure you won't be bored at Micky's.

What makes the place even more worthy of a second visit or even more, is their hospitality. I salute the warm and soothing approach of their staff and specifically, Micky herself. She personally prepares the dishes and serves them with a big smile along with some Japanese words that I really can't catch well. My listening skill for the Japanese language is still too low, unfortunately.

With all these mentioned, I'm sure you already know the reason why I consider this place as the best in Cebu City. This place should definitely top your list as well.

Here are some of the photos I took at Micky's:

Where is it located?

It's located near Parklane Hotel just beside a Korean restaurant, specifically at Arch. Reyes corner Escario St. (walking distance from Ayala Center)

One can ride a 14-D jeepney from Colon Street to get to Micky's or simply ride a taxi and ask the taxi driver to bring you to Parklane. You'd easily spot the place because of the huge "JAPANESE CAKES" sign.

See you guys there! Have fun!
